A hard disk directly connected through USB 2.0 will hardly ever go above 20 MB/sec, whereas on USB 3.0 even small 2.5" disks reach 100 MB/sec. The size of the disks don't matter. And I don't buy that - there are many resources that state the speed will be slow but faster than 10MB/s.
